The 70th Anniversary of D-Day (Program 139)

On June 6, 1944, Allied Troops landed in Normandy, on the northern coast of France, to begin the liberation of Europe from the tyranny of the Nazis.  The story of the landings; their planning and execution, and the bravery and sacrifice of the men who landed that day, are legendary.  The immense effort and sacrifice of the fighting forces resulted in many losses, many men perishing on the beaches of Utah, Omaha, Juno, Sword, and Gold Beaches.  But this monumental effort was a success: the ultimate liberation of France and the beginning of the end of the Nazi regime.  The loss of life, a tragic consequence of war, was tempered by the fact that those sacrifices resulted in achieving the victory toward which all of the participants that day, worked so hard.  Coming soon on Galaxy Moonbeam Night Site, we remember that day that our parents and grandparents had been waiting for.  A major turning point in the Second World War.  We recall some of the people involved, the men who sailed to their destiny in Europe, our military and political leaders of the time, the Allied cause to which so many were committed.  We recall the state of the world at that time, and we listen to how Americans first heard the news by actual recordings of some of the news bulletins, as they were first broadcast in the wee hours of that June 6th so long ago.  Join us on this upcoming episode of Galaxy Moonbeam Night Site.

Ladies and Gentlemen...The Beatles!!!! (Programs 132 and 133)

Fifty years ago, on February 9, 1964, The Beatles made their debut in America appearing on the Ed Sullivan Show.  Their debut ushered in a change in American musical and cultural tastes.  The 1950s, which lasted longer than the actual decade itself, and which many feel ended with the tragic assassination of President Kennedy at the end of 1963, had come to a close.  The 1960s with all of its radical changes in popular culture had begun.  Here on Galaxy Moonbeam Night Site, we present two programs telling the story of the Beatles and how their debut on American television came to be. Also we look back at those cultural changes and how life as we knew it in the 50s would never be the same again.  Fifty years have come and gone, but the memories linger on.  Join us on Galaxy Moonbeam Night Site for these programs with our guest John Fox.

The 50th Anniversary of the Assassination of President John F. Kennedy (Program 126)

Fifty years ago, on November 22, 1963, President John F. Kennedy was assassinated in Dallas, Texas while on a visit there.  No one who was alive that day will ever forget where they were and what they were doing when they first heard the terrible news.  Join us on Galaxy Moonbeam Night Site as we look back to that day, listening to some of the news coverage during the first moments as the shocking news was reported on radio.  We hear from some of our friends such as "Shotgun Tom" Kelly, Dave Leonard, and John Coleman as they recall where they were when they first heard the news.  We reflect on how the President's death changed the course of history, not only for the United States, but indeed, for the world.  We look back at how Americans reacted to the news that day.  Additionally, we examine how President Kennedy's death is still of great interest to so many people, including newer generations.  We offer a retrospective looking back a half century, to this tragic event that changed the nation and the world forever. Join us as we remember President John F. Kennedy.

Thanks for Making Us #1 This Year,
According to San Diego Press Club,
(and listener feedback!)

We wanted to take this moment to thank all the Galaxy Good Guys and Good Gals that have supported our shows for the past three years. Your e-mail feedback, Facebook "Friending", and word-of-mouth referrals to new listeners humbles us, but at the same time energizes and inspires us to continue on in 2014, to produce more shows that bring back those rich memories of growing up in the 1950s-1960s-1970s, and yes, even the 1980s. As we steam ahead toward 2014, we continue to ask for your ideas and input. With listeners on local San Diego FM radio, to those from around the country, and around the world who download our podcasts via Apple iTunes, we are eager to serve each and every one of you with the best in talk radio about nostalgia, and Baby Boomer memories.

Warmly,
